Tips for Caring Leather Goods
Items made of genuine leather will look unique, vintage and classy, so that not a few people love them. But the maintenance is quite troublesome sometimes makes people think twice about having leather goods. Moreover, the price can be up to many-fold than ordinary items.
For those of you who already have genuine leather items, here are some tips to keep the items durable.
AVOID MAIN ENEMIES SKIN MATERIAL: MUSHROOM
Leather goods are indeed the target of mushrooms. Sometimes it's very annoying if even the favorite items are mushrooms. Here are ways to avoid mold:
1. Do not keep too long in a closet or a closed room.
Sometimes it's so unfortunately you only wear it on special events, the rest is stored in the closet. This is certainly a big mistake, being stored in a closet won't make your leather goods last long. Instead it will make it moldy. Moist air in the closet is perfect for mushrooms. So it should be aerated outdoors regularly.
2. Keep dry
One way to avoid mold is to keep the skin dry, especially the inside. Use silica gel, enter it inside. Silica gel can keep the inside dry, reduce moisture and eliminate odors. But silica gel also has a limit, you still need to open it and leave it open outside the room so it's not moist.
tips: Use silica gel on leather materials, especially bags and shoes.
3. Use Vinegar
A safe and inexpensive solution is to use vinegar. The way to prepare a sponge that has been moistened with water, drip a little vinegar on the sponge, then wipe the entire surface of the skin. Dry it using a soft, hairless dry cloth. Store it back in its original place after it is completely dry.
Wash Immediately
Leather goods are actually strong, and you should not worry too much about dirt and dust. You can wash it in the right way, to keep it clean and durable. Washing leather goods is not like washing cloth, it is very different. Here's how:
1. Mix water and bath soap into the bucket.
2. Apply liquid soap by hand.
3. If there are parts that need to be brushed, use a toothbrush with a soft tip.
4. Rinse the shampoo until the soap is gone.
5. Dry in a place that is not directly exposed to the sun.
6. Leave it to dry, for the inside can use a hair dryer but do not get too close to the surface of the skin, use it from a reasonable distance and not only focus on one point.
7. Apply body lotion on the surface of the skin, after the item is completely dry.
8. If you don't use body lotion, you can also use baby oil. Use a small soft cloth, drop baby oil into the cloth and spread it to the entire surface of the skin.
FOR LEATHER JACKETS
1. Use body lotion to clean the surface of the leather jacket that is worn everyday. Body lotion will not only make the leather jacket clean again but also make it shiny.
2. Keep the jacket in a position hung with a hanger. Never store a leather jacket by folding it and then storing it in a closet with a pile of other clothes. Leather jackets are usually stiffer and thicker, if forced folded will make your jacket tangled and wrinkled folds.
3. If possible, make your laundry jacket better in a special place that provides laundry services made of leather.
FOR LEATHER SHOES
1. Do not store your leather shoes in a box especially if stored for a long time. Leather shoes are better kept on a shoe rack, exposed to wind and outside air. If stored in a shoe box will trigger the growth of mold because the air is moist and no fresh air enters.
2. Avoid using a shoe brush, because it risks making the surface of the skin damaged. This method is widely used, but actually not right. It is better to use a soft dry cloth, can be made of cotton and not hairy, and use a conditioner to coat the surface of your leather shoes. Rub slowly to shiny, and still cool and durable.
3. If the leather shoes are exposed to wet rain, this is where fears usually arise. When you leave for work, it's sunny, but suddenly it rains when you go home, your leather shoes can get soaked. Do not worry! First dry your leather shoes with a dry cloth, store the shoes over the dry and clean used newspaper, and also insert a bundle of newspaper into the shoes. The remaining water will be absorbed by the newspaper. Dry in a place that is not directly exposed to the sun.
