Tips To Handling RTO Modems
RTO is a condition when the server does not provide a connection request response from the client (you / internet users) in a certain time range variation, Request Timed Out. As I experienced a few days ago when I was busy surfing the internet suddenly the connection was lost. Does it take a long time and then connect again, what's the matter? Then the signal is almost full bar, check the quota is still safe, check the validity period is also safe, then try to google.com, then ping as in the picture above, the connection is broken connecting unstable.
Surfing in cyberspace becomes even more dazed because the connection is not stable. I as a smartfren customer rarely experience anything like this, then I consult with customer service. Their response is fast, patient, and especially they can handle my complaints as customers appropriately.
The frequent case of RTO can occur in all telecommunications providers not only Smartfren, the causes are as follows:
- The network is too dense in one location, more users will be slow or even RTO. Bandwidth sharing.
- Connection is dormant or idle, which means your computer is still connected to the internet but there is no activity.
- The provider network is having problems or poor network quality.
- The signal is unstable / less strong.
- Network infrastructure maintenance.
- Websites that are accessed delay, ping will experience a timeout.
- The modem device has a problem.
- Problem card.
- IP connection is lost.
- Effect of viruses / worms.
- Certain program crashes, such as browsers with firewalls or antivirus.
- The internet provider is bad.
- Here are some TIPS to minimize the possibility of an RTO connection.
Upgrade the bandwidth speed of your service data plan, if that's the problem because the network is too crowded. You can ask directly to the customer service provider in question.
Make activities on your computer if the RTO is caused due to an idle internet connection, because you only have to take a shower, eat, date and so on. Download or upload activities (although small in size) will prevent your computer from being idle. There are two easy ways, namely:
Use the command prompt. Access RUN on the start menu or press the Windows key + R and type CMD, the Command Prompt will appear. Type "ping google.com -t" (without quotes). This Minimice CMD will still run and don't need to be closed, don't worry that the quota will be sucked or the internet will be slow, because the use of the data is very small.
Use IDM (Internet Download Manager) software or another downloader that has a speed limiter. Download a specific file and then select the speed limiter tab, set it to 5 Kb / sec. Download while keeping the connection running (not idle).
But if there is no activity, it's better to just turn off the connection and the computer. As well as resting modems, wifi, computers and saving electricity.
Use alternative DNS, or Google DNS. open control panel, Network and Internet, Network and Sharing Center, Select the Connection that you use, then Wireless Connection Status menu will appear, then click Properties. Select Internet Connection Protocol 4 (TCP / IPv4) click Properties.
IP Address can be left automatic, but DNS is changed to Google DNS, Preferred DNS Server (Primary): 8.8.8.8 and Alternate DNS Server (Secondary): 8.8.4.4.
You can use DNS Alternatively in the same way, only the numbers are changed.
If the RTO because the provider network is in trouble, you have to contact the CS provider of the internet in question. Ask the problem because of what, when to finish and what solution. The rest depends on the internet provider.
Make sure your modem device doesn't have a problem. The way to try changing the simcard and using another internet provider and try it on your modem. It's easier if you borrow from a neighbor who uses the internet too. If you use a connection from another provider smoothly then chances are your modem is not damaged.
The same way can be used to check your simcard. Try using another modem to check your simcard. If you use another modem, the connection smoothly means your simcard is not damaged. But the case of a damaged simcard is very unlikely, unless the usage is unnatural or requires a simcard upgrade. If you have time, it's better to go to the service center / customer service and ask to replace the new simcard, damaged and not damaged You will get a new simcard for free.
If the RTO is due to a firewall or antivirus, you can try disabling a firewall or antivirus or also being able to disable both, but the risk is borne alone. Disable firewalls or ativiruses will be very risky.
If all of these ways have been done, you are still experiencing RTO, so chances are that your internet provider is bad. The best solution is to replace the provider. Except in my case, after searching, try some solutions, and consult with Customer Service, it turns out the modem is damaged. The best solution is to buy a new modem.
